A Cookbook a Week

I have been reading 101 cookbooks - a beautifully photographed blog for quite some time now.

I am inspired to do something like that. The author of that blog found herself with a shelf full of cookbooks that she may not have cracked open for a long time or even ever.
That is the case with me too.
I almost feel like I collect cookbooks rather than actually use them. I like to own the books and then when it comes to finding a recipe-I usually go to the internet. So much more convenient.

So, before I embark on the momentous task that I assigned to my self in the last post - maybe I should look at the cookbooks that I have and use them, review them and see what comes from that.

This is now the purpose of this blog - until it isn't.

I will tackle one book a week starting next week.

This is exciting.

Which cookbooks would you like me to start with?

The Premise of this Blog

I have been teaching Indian cooking for many years.

People ask me about my favorite Indian cookbooks.

I use them myself for ideas, inspiration and recipes.

Why this blog?

It is partially to figure out if there is a book in this idea.

Rule of thumb at the moment:

I tell students that first and most importantly they should buy a book that was written for the American audience. My favorite cookbook author is Mathur Jaffrey. Her recipes are easy to follow, well tested and the results are always consistent.

This needs to be an interactive blog.

Tell me your favorite Indian cookbooks.
What do you like about it?

What is the book you wish was written that you haven't seen yet?

Lets get the conversation going.

I look forward to hearing from you.
